The Laura Woodside Weekly Podcast

Conversations from the heart about spirituality, healing, and the things we were told not to question.

I have made millions of pieces of content in my lifetime. For some reason a podcast feels more serious.

So here's what this is.

Unscripted conversations, first draft on purpose, about spirituality outside of organized religion, nervous system regulation, inner child wounds, grief, neurodivergence, and the programming that keeps women in their place.

Some weeks it's me solo, ranting about a topic I can't stop thinking about. Some weeks it's a conversation with someone whose perspective I want you to hear. I'm currently deep in a rabbit hole about ancient texts and pre-Christian religions, so that one is coming soon.

No script. No AI. If you've been living life without feeling especially alive, I think you'll find something here.

New episodes weekly.

Episode 004: Healing Through the Mind, the Placebo Effect, and Coming Back to My Body

In Episode 4, I share my healing journey, from a car accident and a back injury that wouldn’t heal, to the research on how the mind affects the body. Inspired by Dr. Joe Dispenza’s You Are the Placebo, I talk about meditation, trauma, boundaries, and what it’s taken to feel like myself again. It’s personal, honest, and hopeful. Take a listen, and take care of yourself while you do.

Episode 003: Part 2 of Convo with My Ex - The Diagnosis

Content note: This episode includes discussion of a cancer diagnosis, serious illness, sobriety, and strong language. Please take care of yourself while listening.

In Part 2, Shawn and I pick up where we left off, and this one is heavy.

Over the summer, Shawn started waking up sick, and one day carrying groceries left him needing the rest of the day to recover. After a canceled CT scan, an ER visit, and 24 days at Baylor Scott & White, he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at 42.

We talk about the moment we got the news, what treatment is expected to look like, and how meditation and mindset have become part of Shawn’s daily routine alongside his medical care.

Shawn is also launching @heldtogether.art, a visual diary of his journey through art, along with a way to help cover bills while he’s unable to work. Anyone who donates any amount will receive something from him as a thank you.

If you or someone you love is on a cancer journey, we hope you’ll follow along. And please talk to your doctor about colon cancer screening.

Episode 002: The Invisible String: Recovery, Codependency and Co-Parenting With My Ex (Part 1)

This week, my ex Shawn joins me on the mic. He's an incredible dad to our daughter and one of my very best friends... but getting here wasn't easy. We talk about meeting in 2012, loving someone through addiction and relapse, the codependency we built together, and becoming parents in the middle of grief. Most of all, this is a story about how two people who put each other through the wringer found their way to a healthy, loving co-parenting relationship.

Part 2 is coming soon, where we'll share a recent diagnosis Shawn received and how our family is handling it.

Content note: This episode includes discussion of addiction, withdrawal, and suicide. Please take care of yourself while listening. If you're struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Episode 001: 9 Things I Need You to Know (I Said 10, I Lied)

The introduction episode. Who I am, how I got here, what this show is going to be, and nine things I wrote down by hand that I need you to hear.

This episode includes discussion of suicide loss.
